Desmond James
A player from our early era, Desmond set the perfect example as to how a player could serve the game after his playing days had ended.
Desmond took charge of the Colts in the fifties (being at different times Coach, Secretary and Treasurer), he was a member of the Cornwall Rugby Referees Society (CRRS)
He especially liked being involved with organising various social events over the years (Dance Band evenings, Tramps Balls, Donkey Derby & Fetes etc) alongside other stalwarts such as Bill Crotty, Jimmer Collins, Dick Tonkin, Bijou Harvey and Ray Matthews.
He was often MC on these occasions, a role he also performed for other town bodies such as the Round Table.
A most able speaker and smartly presented he was the ideal front man whose efforts attracted numerous Patrons to support the club financially.
Desmond held the office of Chairman (1969-71), President (1971-75), and he was made a Life Member in 1981.
His contribution to the well-being of the club and town was truly magnificent and throughout he was supported by his wife Eve, herself a Vice President of the Penzance & Newlyn RFC.
