Richard Evans
A deeply proud and passionate Pirate from a very young age, Richard grew up within a stones throw of the famous Mennaye Field.
His father, Raymond, was a straight talking (surprise!) and respected officer both of the Pirates and the England Schools RFU (President 1963-64).
Richard played rugby for Penzance Grammar School, him also playing for Cornwall Schools, Mounts Bay Colts (the Penzance & Newlyn RFC U18s team), and then the Pirates Chiefs, his first game being against Bridgwater & Albion in 1965.
He fondly recalls scoring two tries soon after, in a 16-6 win against Redruth with Richard Sharp in their side - who went on to play for England at Cardiff Arms Park the following week.
Richard played for Richmond whilst attending University at Kings College, London, and then moved to Africa where he captained Kenya and East Africa in the early seventies.

As an exile Pirate, and a successful businessman, Richard followed the clubs fortunes from abroad, his interest seriously rekindled in the early nineties.
He became our President in 1995, the period since seeing the Pirates experience a truly meteoric rise through the league system an exciting roller-coaster voyage which is now starting to embrace the whole of Cornwall.
Supporters of the Pirates have been extremely fortunate to witness the standard of rugby accomplished, and although others have had to play their part, we would all agree that Richard, or Dicky as he is generally referred to, has been our singularly influential and talismanic leader to whom we are most grateful.
