Presentations made were as follows
Colts Win County Sevens Title For the first time since 1968 the Pirates Colts team won the Cornwall Colts 7-a-side tournament which was held at Newquay on Sunday.
Topping their group they followed this with a 45-7 win over Camborne before beating Redruth 28-14 in an entertaining final. The result was a just end of season reward for the players and their coaches Squad Tries in the final were scored by Johnny Morrison (2), Jack Eddy, and Nick Hitchens who also converted each. DUBAI SEVENS - Two of our players, John Morrison and Nick Hitchens, had a fantastic trip with Truro College, them reaching the quarter-final stage. They also had the opportunity to watch some of the quality senior international matches which England won. To the end of November our Colts had played a number of 'friendly' matches only, all at home, with the serious business due to start after Christmas when the U18s Cup competition matches begin. The side this year is a young one with the majority being in their first season of Colts rugby, but the numbers turning up for training are very encouraging, with there being a squad of 26 players to select from. The coaching staff comprises Joff Collins, Martin Murrish, Treve Stirling (all former Pirates), Chris Tooze and Paul Quayle. and Stuart Kent is the section's Fixture Secretary. Results of games played to date are as follows:- v Hayle won 32-7, v Newquay lost 20-22, v Penryn lost 5-22, v Camborne lost 5-31, v Truro won 22-19 (a great result against the County Champions), v Launceston lost 14-15. A number of our players are at Truro College where they play in the Academy and are kept busy by having matches every week. Two of them, John Morrison (nephew of Martin Murrish and son of Julie) and Nick Hitchens, have been selected to play for the College in the Dubai Sevens - we wish them well. Anyone interested in playing Colts rugby should note that they train every thursday evening from 6.30 to 8.15pm.
