Pirates 2nds. 31 Imperial Medicals 38

Boosted by the inclusion of several players from the successful Mounts Bay team, the Pirates outfit, a number of whom had also played in the Fishermens Charity match earlier in the afternoon, blended surprisingly quickly against a useful Imperial Medicals selection last Saturday.

In a match played hard but fair, the home side built up a lead before the mix of qualified doctors and medical students from St. Marys, Charing Cross, Chelsea and Westminster Hospitals came back strongly in the second half to snatch a deserved victory.

1/4/06 Redruth Albany 21 Pirates 2nds 20

As expected, the return fixture at Redruth Albany was a closely-fought affair, with the hosts sneaking victory by a single point.

We scored tries through prop Daniel Lugg, flanker James White, wing Mark Osborne and full-back Scott Dugdale, but we sadly failed to slot just the one single conversion which would have given us victory.

18/2/06 - Stithians 41 - Pirates 2nds 15

Having beaten Stithians comfortably earlier in the season, this was now revenge timefor the home side who won with something to spare. The seconds did manage three tries through lock Dave Lawrence, wing Mark Osborne and full-back Ben Quick, but on the day there was no argument as to who was the better team in a surprisingly fierce contest.

Pirates - Ben Quick, Mark Osborne, Sam Heath, Des O'Connell, Ian Davies, Andrew Snell, Keith Terry, Matt Pascoe, Kevin Osborne, James White, Dave Lawrence, Rob Davies, Dan Lugg, Wayne Davey, John Thomas. Replacement - Scott Dugdale.

4/2/06 - Perranporth Reserves 12 - Pirates 2nds 55

With England versus Wales being shown on the 'box', the Pirates 2nd. XV travelled to play Perranporth Reserves for an earlier than usual kick-off, their side including a new arrival from Kent in the shape of flanker James White, whilst out wide winger Chris Woods was playing his first game since returning to the area.

On a fine day for rugby football the Pirates blend of experience and youth paid dividends, scoring nine tries against their spirited opponents, with there also being the usual touch of sportsmanship on display - Andrew Snell and Ben Eddy being called upon to referee one half each.

Scorers - tries: Sam Heath (3), Ben Eddy (2), Ben Gibson (2), Scott Dugdale, Matt Pascoe; cons: Andrew Snell (4), Sam Heath.

7/1/06 - The first fixture of the New Year was played away to ST. JUST 2nds which we won 33-15. Try-scorers were hooker Lee Williams

(who sportingly threw the ball in at the line-out for both sides!), scrum-half Dave Pascoe, skipper and No. 8 Andrew Gwennap, and centre Sam Heath who notched two tries and four conversions. Scott Randall started at fly-half for the Pirates because Andrew Snell, a regular wearer of the number ten jersey, was called upon to referee the first half.

The match provided a memorable and nostalgic moment for replacement Duncan Scobie, him given the opportunity to wear the Pirates' colours for the first time in twelve years.
